Preamble
Frontier Open University is committed to promoting open education, enhancing access to quality learning resources, and fostering a culture of sharing and collaboration. This OER Policy outlines our approach to creating, using, and sharing Open Educational Resources.
Objectives
- Promote Access: Increase access to affordable, high-quality learning materials for students.
- Encourage Innovation: Support faculty in creating and adapting OER to meet curricular needs.
- Foster Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and share OER.
- Ensure Quality: Maintain standards for OER development, review, and use.
Scope
This policy applies to all faculty, staff, and students involved in creating, adapting, or using OER in courses offered by Frontier Open University.
Key Principles
- Open Licensing: OER developed with university resources will be licensed under Creative Commons (CC BY or CC BY-SA) to allow reuse, revision, remix, and redistribution.
- Development and Adoption:
– Faculty are encouraged to use and adapt existing OER.
– The university will provide training, incentives, and support for OER creation.
- Quality Assurance: OER will undergo peer review for academic rigor and accessibility.
- Accessibility: OER will be designed to meet accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1).
- Repository: The university will maintain an OER repository for storing, sharing, and discovering resources.
Implementation
- Support and Training: Offer workshops, grants, and technical support for OER development.
- Copyright and Licensing: Ensure proper attribution and compliance with open licenses.
- Promotion: Encourage OER use in course syllabi and marketing materials.
Roles and Responsibilities
– OER Committee: Oversee policy implementation, provide guidelines, and promote OER initiatives.
– Faculty: Identify, adapt, create, and share OER in their courses.
– Library: Manage the OER repository and provide access support.
Review and Revision
This policy will be reviewed annually to adapt to evolving OER practices and technologies.
